Traces2026

“Traces” conceives of the body as an open space where individual and collective memories

converge; as a vessel for memories, experiences, and stories. Through quiet gestures and slow movements, it becomes evident how lived experiences are inscribed in the body—as posture, as movement, as an expression of emotion. The space of the synagogue is incorporated here as a place of remembrance and reflection. Within this context, the performance invites viewers to reflect on the connection between the body, history, and the present—on everything that lives on within the body.

THE STOMMELN SYNAGOGUE PROJECT

The Stommeln Synagogue, built in 1882, is one of the few Jewish places of worship in Germany that survived the era of National Socialism. Since 1991, the initiative of the city of Pulheim, numerous artists have engaged with the synagogue and contributed to a vibrant culture of remembrance through their exhibitions and productions. Among them were Jannis Kounellis, Richard Serra, Mischa Kuball, Carl Andre, Rebecca Horn, Lawrence Weiner, Rosemarie Trockel, Max Neuhaus, Daniel Buren, Gregor Schneider, and Franz Erhard Walther.
